Demo Site Design & Generation

Project Overview

This was a project I worked on for an employer on a private repo. The goal was to use their flagship hybrid WordPress theme to design fake sites and then implement those designs into an existing Bash script tool that generated sub-sites within a WordPress multi-site install. The existing Bash script was originally generated by Claude and another developer, but to achieve our goals, it would need significant re-structuring.

Note: Due to legal reasons, this is a project I can demo to future employers or clients, but not something I can host live. Happy to demo the work over a video call/screen share.

Tech Stack

My Role

I added new block styles, created new settings for WordPress’s Customizer, adjusted theme styles, corrected color contrast issues, and added 26 new block patterns as I was going through the process of designing these sites. I designed three sites to start. Two of those sites were fully implemented into the site generation tool, the third was designed, but not yet implemented.

The initial tool was capable of creating sub-sites and generating child themes with different colors/fonts, but design-wise, they all looked the same. Hence my involvement to make the tool more intelligent and flexible so that it was capable of generating unique demo sites.

Key Contributions

  • Contributed to their flagship WordPress theme with the focus of using those design focused features in this generator tool.
  • Improved the Bash-based site generation tool by implementing a tokenized block markup template system that would allow page designs to be authored directly in WordPress. Improved generation speed, customized dynamic link handling, and organized the script into fault-tolerant phases. Page creation, menu creation, and design all worked together within the Bash script.
  • Designed and created three complete demo sites with original block patterns, color schemes, placeholder images, AI-generated placeholder content, and typography.
