Mayo Clinic Alumni Association

Project Overview

View Site

The Mayo Clinic Alumni Association website serves as a private network for alumni, residents, and fellows of the Mayo Clinic. The site enables users to register, manage their profiles, and connect with others through a secure, CRM-integrated platform. Built as a legacy Classic WordPress site, it relies on complex data synchronization between WordPress and Mayo Clinic’s CRM system via Apigee.

Tech Stack

My Role

I maintained and enhanced the site’s core functionality—focusing primarily on the back-end systems that powered user registration, authentication, and profile management. My work centered around extending and stabilizing a large custom plugin that handled all data exchanges with the CRM.

Key Contributions

  • Extended an existing custom WordPress plugin (Object-Oriented PHP) to support new profile data fields and syncing logic with the CRM through Apigee.
  • Implemented new API endpoints and validation layers to ensure data accuracy between WordPress, Gravity Forms, and the CRM.
  • Used Postman extensively to test, debug, and confirm data integrity during integration updates.
  • Collaborated closely with the client’s CRM team to troubleshoot data inconsistencies and coordinate new functionality rollouts.
  • Refactored the site’s desktop navigation for clarity and accessibility.
  • Rebuilt the mobile menu with a new design that met accessibility and usability best practices.

Impact

My updates strengthened the stability and reliability of the CRM integration, reducing sync errors and improving data accuracy across systems. The refined menus enhanced usability for both desktop and mobile visitors, ensuring compliance with accessibility standards while maintaining the site’s legacy infrastructure.
